• Question: You say you study the genetic mutations that cause blood disorders, is it just blood disorders that you study, or do you concentrate on other things as well?

My project is just about studying genetics and applying it to blood disorders, but there are lots of different things within that I do within that. Here are some projects assides my main research goal I’m involved in:
-I’m doing some work to look at how and why complex rearrangements of the genetic code happen.
-I’m also looking at where sickle cell disease came from originally by looking at genetic data from a historical perspective and tracing the mutation backwards – like looking for your ancestors on a family tree.
-I’m involved in a project that looks at how having a combination of slight variations of some different genes can affect how badly you suffer from your blood disorder – and how we can use this to improve the way we treat them.

The funny thing about science is that everything sounds like a small area of research from the surface, but when you look at the finer details it just goes on and on – there are so many things we don’t know
