I wanted to do something that would help lots of people. Blood disorders, particularly sickle cell disease and thalassaemia, are some of the most common genetic disorders in the world, so by improving how we diagnose them I get to help a lot of people! Hopefully my research will also be applicable to the diagnosis of other genetic diseases.
