I like being in a university environment. There are so many people doing research and you get to learn a lot of things from them. It is also a quite free place to practice your ideas and get to see if they work. If you have a good supervisor he can always help and suggest ways to make them work. I also get to teach undergraduates and masters students which is interesting and a very good challenge.

Free coffee, definitely the free coffee!

On a more serious note it’s flexible working hours and you get to play with the newest toys that the guys at Intel, Apple and Google come up with. What’s not to like?
And did I mention the free coffee?

The creative side, the opportunities to have to think and always challenge yourself and those surrounding, and to see how one can achieve results, specially in community driven projects 🙂

Seeing something I’m doing have results for real people is very rewarding. I also enjoy making pretty graphs, having flexible hours and the opportunity to think for myself

Coming into work in a morning and not knowing what you’re going to find out today. Research is very up and down, periods of methodical work progressing towards a goal, followed by intense activity and excitement as things come together. It’s a job where your limited only by your imagination, there’s no right way to do anything, you experiment, think outside the box. Not everything will pan out, but when it does it’s great. It’s not for everyone, but I feel very lucky to be doing what I am.
