-Robert E Kahn and Vint Cerf who invented the internet
-Dawin for his theory on Natural Selection
-Crick, Watson and Franklin for resolving the structure of DNA
-Fredrick Sanger who developed the Sanger DNA sequencing technique
I think if you asked people who weren’t Scientists you would probably end up with a list of some of the more popular/infamous public communicators of Science. Right now that’s probably going to mean people like :-
In terms of important scientific discoveries in Biology, Chemistry, Medicine related areas a couple that spring to mind are :-
Fleming, Chain and Florey for the discovery of penicillin that has saved millions of lives.
Karry Mullis for the invention of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) which transformed biomedical science and essentially made modern genetic engineering and molecular biology possible.
Also as Claire said :-
Gilbert and Sanger for revolutionising DNA sequencing.
Crick, Watson, Wilkins (and Franklin) for discovering the structure of DNA.
